2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the fascist Coup in Chile — an event that was accompanied by the murder of elected socialist President Salvador Allende, and the murder, torture and imprisonment of thousands of his supporters. Scotland should be proud of its solidarity activity with the Chilean people in the years to follow — providing an international lead with the boycott of military jet engines in Rolls Royce East Kilbride, other less well-known actions, and the welcome it offered hundreds of refugees who were forced out of their home country. This book tells that story using first hand accounts and archival material from the period. It also highlights Scotland’s ongoing record in international socialist solidarity and recent examples that also deserve celebrations.
